Surf Swim Minimum Standards
We have 3 weekly Surf Swim sessions (Saturday, Monday & Wednesday) that run year round RAIN HAIL SHINE.
See below for a guide to each of the sessions & the relevant minimum standards required!
Saturday & Wednesday sessions from North Bondi Surf Club - meet on the promenade (click here for map).
* Be warned - we DO NOT allow late arrivals, so make sure you leave plenty of time to get there & be aware of Bondi parking issues!
* Saturday 10:30am - for your own safety, we have a minimum standard of 1km non-stop freetyle for this swim - ideally you could quote a 1km pool time. If you cannot swim this far - no problems, check our swim squad & stroke correction info or book a 1 on 1 pool swim.
Non swimmers - if you are prepared to do the work, we will get you there!
We have had thousands of non swimmers go on to compete in the many ocean swims held in & around Sydney!
Rookies mistakenly think that they will learn to swim in the surf whereas moving water is the worst place to learn correct breathing & technique! Check our swim squad & stroke correction info or book a 1 on 1 pool swim.
Generally we have 2 coaches on a Saturday with 1 designated for rookie surf swimmers!
We will alway offer safer swim options when the surf is bigger such as "swim along the beach" inside the break.
We train RAIN HAIL SHINE all year round, so there is no excuse not to turn up!
* Wednesday 6:15am - this is for those that can swim 2km non-stop or further. We often swim in/ out through the surf & this is a "Swim with the Coach" session - if you want to be pushed & are prepared to "have a go", this is for you!
* Monday 7am following 6am Bondi Icebergs squad, we have a 30 minute "swim with the coach" option for those confident to take the challenge! The coach will guide you as to when you are ready to participate in this - it's fun & a great way to combine a pool & surf swim!
* Wetsuits advised for winter sessions although water temperture is still 20 degrees in early June!
* DO NOT bring valuables to the beach.
* 2 hour FREE parking in streets near the surf club behind the beach or metered parking availble on the beach as well as Waverley Council Car Park fronting the beach.
* Surf swimming can be dangerous & please be aware of the relevant risks - DO NOT turn up if you cannot swim!
